Internet Abbreviation

Hello everyone!

When we´re surfing the internet we use some abbreviations, don't we?
Quando navegamos na internet, usamos algumas abreviações, não é?
In English is the same!
Em Inglês é a mesma coisa!

It's easy to see OMG for Oh My God!, LOL for Laugh Out Loud on chats or blogs...
É fácil ver OMG para "Oh meu Deus!" LOL para risos em chats e blogs...

This video shows an example of internet abbreviation... Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory is playing an on-line game and when he needs a pause he says AFK - Away From Keyboard para os outros jogadores.
Penny says "I see" as in "I understand" and he thinks it´s another abbreviation (IC)
Este vídeo é um exemplo de abreviações da internet... Sheldon do The Big Bang Theory está em um jogo on-line e quando precisa de um tempo ele diz AFK - Longe do Teclado para os outros jogadores.
Penny diz "Eu Entendo" e ele pensa que ela está dizendo outra abreviação (IC)

You can find some DIY markets like Cainz Home
Você encontra alguns mercados  DIY como Cainz Home

It says Do It Yourself, sometimes you´ll find the same market written just DIY, wich means, there are products there to use your creativity and make some handcrafts.
No letreiro diz Faça Voce Mesmo mas você pode encontrar outros com a abreviação DIY, wue significa que há produtos para serem usados com sua criatividade pois são produtos para você fazer à mão, sozinho.

It's interesting, isn't it?

We have that in Portuguese as well...

Have you ever wondered how it would be called the Brazilian Soap operas?

Vocês já imaginaram como se chamariam as novelas brasileiras em inglês?

This is a question I always ask myself when a new tv show appears on tv.

Let´s learn something?

Well, I´ve seen a bunch of my students refering to soap operas as novels.

Vamos aprender algo?

Bem, tenho visto muitos dos meus alunos se referindo às novelas como novels.

It´s not totally incorrect, since most of soap operas are novels but the tv show is called soap opera and the books, movies... are mostly common to say novels as a description to a story, such as a fable, a legend, a romance.

Não é totalmente incorreto, já que a maioria das novelas são histórias inventadas, mas o programa é chamado de soap opera e os livros e filmes... são comumente referidos como novels na descrição de sua estória, assim como uma fábula, uma lenda, um romance.

Vocabulary:

stare - when someone is looking at you a lot.
           quando alguem esta olhando muito pra voce.

super dooper whooper burger - when you want to emphasise the subject.
                                                 quando voce quer dar enfase no sujeito/objeto.

mixed race girl - a girl whose parents are from different races. Like a Japanese father and a Brazilian mother.
                        - uma menina cujos pais sao de diferentes raças. Como um pai japones e uma mae brasileira.

The interesting thing to mention here: bias.

O que eh interessante mencionar aqui.

It's the word you use to describe when you have a prejudgement on something or someone according to its appearance.

Eh a palavra usada para descrever quando você tem um pre-julgamento de algo ou alguém de acordo com sua aparência.

Games in English

Hello everyone!

In today's post I came to show you some games that you are all familiar with, but maybe you don't know how to say them in English!
No post de hoje, vim mostrar alguns jogos que tenho certeza que vocês ja conhecem mas talvez nao saibam dizer o nome deles em inglês.

Let's go with teacher Pri!

Well, to start, there are the board games, the ones we used to play a lot as child and until today hopefully, because it's really fun!
Bem, para começar, tem os jogos de tabuleiro, aqueles que vocês brincavam bastante quando crianças e inclusive hoje em dia, pois sao muito divertidos!

When my brothers and cousins are reunited we love to play War, Monopoly and Clue!
Quando meus irmaos e primos nos reunimos adoramos jogar War, Banco Imobiliario e Detetive!

...and we aren't kids anymore!!! lol
... e nao somos mais crianças!!! rs

Well, Clue is the game we're supposed to find the guilty for the murder, example: "It was Miss White, in the library with the knife!"
Bem, Detetive eh o jogo que devemos descobrir quem eh o culpado pelo assassinato, exemplo: "Foi a Srta. Branca, na biblioteca com a faca!"

Guess Who? is the game we need to find out the person your opponent has in its hand by asking strategic questions and eliminating options, such as: "Does it have black hair"
Cara a cara eh o jogo que nos precisamos descobrir a pessoa que seu oponente tem em suas maos, fazendo perguntas estratégicas e eliminando opções, assim como: "Tem cabelo preto?"

Monopoly is the game you need to "buy" lands or Avenues, being careful to have money enough to avoid bankrupting.
Banco Imobiliario eh o jogo que voce precisa comprar terras e avenidas, tomando cuidado para evitar a falencia.

Life is the game you take cards to see the destiny of your life. Example: "Congratulations! You just got twin babies!"
Vida eh o jogo que voce tira cartas para ver o destino da sua vida. Exemplo: "Parabens! Voce acabou de ter bebes gemeos!"

Of course there are some other games like:
Claro que ha outros jogos como:

Wordsearch

Puzzle

In this case, it could be any game that is a brain teaser or demand strategy.

Neste caso, pode ser qualquer jogo que exercite o cérebro ou exija estratégia.

Hangman

I like playing these games in class, we can have fun and also learn!

Eu gosto de brincar com estes jogos nas aulas, nos podemos nos divertir e também aprender!
